Multimodal Treatment: Nutrition Counseling for Chronic Pain

Nutrition Health Coaching

As part of the PRM Protocol, we offer nutrition counseling where our health coaches guide patients towards sustainable diet and lifestyle changes so that they can discover the foods and lifestyle practices that will help them to heal, and help to reduce their inflammation and pain.  We help our patients sort through the overwhelming health information they are presented with in the past, by empowering them through a personalized treatment plan that fits their unique needs.

The Impact of Nutrition on Chronic Pelvic Pain

How Can Nutrition Counseling Aid in Pelvic Pain Treatment?

We know that what goes into your body can affect your inflammation and pain. We help our patients take care of their bodies through a nutritional avenue because if you’re receiving treatment and are eating foods that re-trigger an inflamed state, it can be harder to heal. We empower our patients through education on anti-inflammatory foods, supplements, and other items that will aid in healing pain and help our treatment be that much more effective.

Inflammation is one of the mechanisms that triggers chronic pelvic pain and diseases such as endometriosis. A diet high in inflammation triggers an inflammatory reaction and a cycle of inflammation. At PRM, we believe in helping our patients eliminate (or moderate) their inflammatory and trigger points - including in their diet and lifestyle.

Adapting the anti-inflammatory diet and routine can assist in lowering overall inflammation in the body which helps in the success of the PRM Protocol

Many patients we see suffering from persistent pelvic pain also have high anxiety and stress levels due to their pain which often leads to fatigue and low energy. Fueling your body with the proper food and nutrients gives your body the energy you need to be your best self and gives you the energy you need to get through the day pain-free.

At PRM, we believe in the mind-gut connection and often a key step in feeling better is fueling your body with the right foods and ensuring your gut health is in check. So much of pelvic pain stems from the gut.

You Do Not Have to Do This Alone

Get Help With Your Diet for Chronic Pain

The goal of nutrition counseling is to educate patients on how the foods we eat can impact pain and inflammation within the body. We empower our patients with information that allows them to make the best decisions for healing their bodies. Through active listening, we create a safe space for patients to share their thoughts, fears, and behaviors related to food.

We collaborate and offer guidance and emotional support to assist patients with their diet and lifestyle changes with the goal of reducing pain and inflammation alongside their treatment.

Step One: We gather the full picture of your health history and eating habits so that we can understand where you are nutritionally.

Step Two: We’ll take the time to understand your goals for eating healthier and if there are any digestive issues you’re experiencing that we should work to relieve, and what you want to understand about the connection between food and pain and inflammation relating to your condition.

Step Three: We teach our patients how to meal plan and we provide recipes geared towards their health goals. We encourage patients to keep a food diary so they can be aware of what they eat and how it makes them feel. We are there to answer any questions and to provide insight and direction on changes that need to be made, so patients can continue to have reduced pain and inflammation.

Step Four: After collaborating with patients and empowering them with education on a new diet and lifestyle changes to coincide with their pelvic pain treatments, patients report more energy, better sleep, less stress, confidence around what to eat, reduced or eliminated pain and symptoms, more trust in their body’s ability to heal, and a more positive outlook on life.
